MORTAL KOMBAT X general discussion

Reptile's reveal costume looks to be his alt. You can see his portrait is a different outfit. Resembles the one from the comic more.

Shit. I didn't see that you had posted this and I made a thread, lol. My bad.

Ya know.. Something I'm really hoping for is hidden characters that we have to unlock in the krypt. I know that it would make things difficult for tourneys, but I had an idea. I remember someone mentioned that Ed said something about having a 'tournament mode' with no intros/fatalities/outros. What if all characters were unlocked by default there and in practice mode, but we still had to unlock them for ladder/1v1 local. I think that'd be a decent compromise.

This maybe a dumb question but is no intros, outros a mk only thing. I know you have Jades stripper pole among others, so I can see why removing them. I don't watch many tournements, but I seen a couple SF and blazblues on twitch and they had intros. Of course they may not have been professional ones either.

Haha, no worries! Happens sometimes, it's all good. :)

Just to note too, I don't think Reptile is the only alternate we've seen. I'm thinking the characters that have aged might have younger alternates as well. Or even maybe Quan Chi-revenant versions. Who knows, they could have some really cool alternates this time around!

It isn't about the context of the intros/outros it's just about the time. They skip intros in every other game too. Some games you can't skip the Outros, but you can in MK9 via the No Blood Kombat code. This disables the Finish Him and just goes straight to the rematch screen.

Also it isn't mandatory to do this. You wont be disqualified if you let an intro play out and, unless the Tournament Organizer says otherwise, you aren't forced to input the No Blood code.

Tournament players skip all that shit just so they can get to the next match. They dont care about intros, outros, fatalities and stuff like that

It's understandable though. They invest more time into the game than anybody. They've seen that shit a million times lol

I liked Motor Kombat because the tiny characters were really good, I had so much fun with my brother and dad, and the courses were a lot of fun too.

And the quantity of players was enough. MK9 Online was bad and Test Your Luck was the only thing to do when you were bored (after playing the main things).

I think a race with other players and all that specials in the middle of the race would make the game more dynamic.

the builds they play on livestream are specifically designed for that livestream.

This, this, this.

In the last stream they even went as far as to thank everyone who helped get the build ready for the stream. I guarantee you these builds are loosely based off of the E3 demo and they add characters to it when they need a reveal. The true game builds and it's UI system have been kept under wraps.

I'm willing to bet the menu systems and Select Screen will look nothing like the demos we've been seeing when the game releases.

That is the early MK:DA select screen. Notice how it ended up looking drastically different for the final release:

I believe not just the Select Screen, but the entire UI system looks nothing like the one we've been seeing in the demo builds. Especially when you throw the Factions into the mix.

We don't know how much the Factions impact the UI design. Based on the demo UI and its (IMO) placeholder/default look, I'm thinking even the Select Screen will look different depending on what faction you choose. The Lin Kuei will probably still have the Snow Forest as the Select Screen backdrop but I think the other factions will have ones more suited to their individual themes with little touches to make the Select Screen unique between the factions.

Hell, I'd even go as far as to think a faction might even change the art design of the HUD players see during a match. With the gray life bars and such in place, you could easily add some sort of frozen motif to the HUD for the Lin Kuei or military theme for the Special Forces etc. etc.

This gets me even more pumped to see the final release of the game because if they keep showing us only the demo builds we won't really know what to expect when the game comes out!

The MK Armageddon select screen was different during Livestreams as well. It looked like MK9's or Deadly Alliances with half the characters on one side and you had to press R2 to flip the board to get to the rest of the fighters.

However those were the old games. The Select screens they showed us for MK Vs. DC and MK9 during livestreams and trade shows ended up being the final versions

The original games were mostly dark, especially mk2 and the only humor was subtle tongue in cheek humor like the self aware fatalities that are over the top and of course, Johnny. Even then, Johnny's humor was more subtle like putting on sunglasses after a fight. The friendships were pretty much designed to be more embarrassing of a finisher but were very out of place. For years, mk2 had the darkest tone and was known for being the best mk out of the bunch because people loved that atmosphere. The next praised game was deception which pretty much returned to that dark atmosphere as well.

The dark tone and mk go together well and it seems that netherrealm caught on to this for MKX. Now that does mean it can't have humor, but it should be fitting tongue in cheek, black comedy humor. Bo Rai Cho throwing up and farting people to death just seemed like that were trying to appeal to 12 year olds for a stupid laugh. I couldn't stand him because that's all I saw him as and nothing about his design was appealing. He's just a fat guy in mk. Hsu Hao and Drahmin could have had potential, but their design/gameplay sucked and people didn't like it. It's not like we were following Boon on Twitter back then for his opinion either. Like I said, I have no problem with mk having humor, but leave that Adam Sandler herpty derp fart jokes out of it.

Can't say much more than to each his own.

We obviously differ in our mindsets.

I honestly think people are making a bigger deal out of Bo'Rai'Cho because part of maturity is overlooking fart humor I believe but that's where we may differ.

The most horrendous comedic MK joke was Quan Chi's ONLY fatality in MKDA.

No one brings that up as reason to throw him out though.

You don't just throw something out because it has a flaw. You fix it. Period.

Alright. So I really like how each body seems to be roughly different in shape. I mean, over time, we might realize that Sub Zero and Kano share the same body model with different skins over top and different bits of armor and clothing over top of that. But I digress. I really am digging how they're treating the females a bit more in this iteration. One most particularly is Cassie Cage. I'm so glad she actually looks like something you'd expect in a fighting tournament. Kitana... ehh... still a bit skimpy, but at this point, I'm thinking that's due to the culture of Outworld. But it's far better than the stripperathon we were given in MK9. I also like for the most part, the proportions of the characters. No one seems to have exaggerated features. The women look like healthy, lean athletes or gymnasts which is what we SHOULD expect in fighters. If Jaquie is in the game, I really do hope she looks very strong and very brollic. I haven't read the comics past the first issue, so I don't know anything of her. But if she's in, I would expect her to be much more muscular and probably have much bigger shoulders and arms than most of the other women in the game. Ermac and Reptile both have different weight looks and it's nice to see that Kano looks significantly beefier and thicker than either of those two. You can really tell that NRS has decided to use several different bodies in this round.

This is s great post. I hope that Johnny cage doesn't have a body like kano..he should be a thinner guy as well as Lui kang.

Everyone will disagree but I believe breast physics are pretty cool...it doesn't have to be over done but I think mk9 nailed it.

Wow I've never seen that before. I actually really hope the select screen is different. It just looks too bland for me. However, I still remember Boon saying something along the lines that each tile wasn't flat? Perhaps because this game will have descendants etc. that perhaps you can even cycle through tiles (i.e. Cassie Sonya and Johnny) which I think would be awesome, and give more space for more characters.

Random Q, I notice on that top picture that Nitara is missing from the screen, but who is the guy under Sonya? Is that Reiko?

That's Mavado below Sonya's portrait. His hair is different but that's definitely him. He was one of the characters that went through a lot of changes.

lol, I like how they are giving characters their own height now. D'vorah is short even with heels compared to Scorpion and Sub-zero, you see it in the selection screen and intro. Of course when they fight they are close to same height, cause Sub-zero has a low fighting stance. Ferra torr is taller then scorpion, but in game he is slouched over, still taller but not by much. Of course I guess this could be for gameplay mechanics, instead of grabbing the waist you grab D'vorahs chest or a head butt and there is no head their? Its still better then Scorpion 7 foot tall and mileena same height with 8 inch heels.

Yea I just realized that everyone in mk9 had the same body type .smh

Btw

I kept telling all these guys in this site that ..yes we may get a roster size around 30 but the main roster will more than likely consist of 24 characters
