It'd be a neat direction for the character if Shao Kahn and Jerrod acted as the "devil and angel" on Ermac's shoulders. Not too sure they'll go for that, though.
 
And imagine that it's not only two powerful. Two guys that may be putting Ermac's thousands of warriors into a "civil" war for who controls the entire body.

Ermac is sounding like...a realm...
 
Ya'll are coming up with some great ideas, conflicting souls could make for a strong story in itself. Ermac could also use the souls for his own personal gain to, Shao Khans to influence outworld followers and Jerrod for Edinea.

The more I see, the more I'm sure that Kung Lao is gonna be my Main this time around. His style is awesome. Can't wait to play this game!
 
You know, I've been thinking about that comment of "what if we already saw the alternate costumes".

Most of us thought about Ermac, because it looks like his MK9 alternate.

But...

what if Kitana AND Kung Lao are being shown on their alternate costumes, and their primary one is their REVENANT version?

That's an interesting idea. I was thinking of the dialogues we've heard so far and whether they could work with a revenant skin, since I assume dialogue isn't impacted by skin choice and has to kinda-sorta work for both? Maybe?

Raiden: "Kung Lao."
Kung Lao: "Forgive me, Lord Raiden."
Raiden: "I forgive your impending failure."

That one could definitely work for a Revenant fight. The other ones ("I now have a quarrel with you," "Do not provoke a Shaolin," "Then you will remember this," "I have prevailed before, demon," "Must everything have meaning?") seem less likely. But maybe they don't care about the skin and dialogue making sense.
 
It's also possible he was just joking. We didn't even see them press any buttons on the menu to change the costumes. Doesn't make sense for them to show these skins off as the default ones, then switch them around at launch.


My money is on him talking about the comic. Like Cassie's MMA gear and the costume Reptile wears next to Kotal Kahn.

Yeah, I've been thinking that for some characters, this time, the alternate costumes would also work as a different character.

I can be wrong, but when they said an army of revenants, I thought they could return with different powers. The same for Sub-Zero, who could be Bi-Han on main and Kuai Liang on alternate, who knows if powers are a little different.

Anyway, I think the revenant verions being the primary puts more sense to the return of Kitana and Kung Lao. It's still faithfull to the plot, but just added those two because many people like to play with them.

But don't you think that they are trying to avoid touching on certain parts of the story, specially what concerns the closer part to MK9 (Netherrealm War), since everything we are seeing to date is related to the most later years of the game?

Maybe they put only the alternate version of some characters, and when we choose, on the final game, they do that animation. Because, for exemple, if we choose an alterante costume, and they keep that "walk to battle" from the select screen, we will see the costume before the battle.
 
Reptile's reveal costume looks to be his alt. You can see his portrait is a different outfit. Resembles the one from the comic more.

It's pretty obvious that the builds they play on livestream are specifically designed for that livestream. They decide which characters they want to be visible and which ones hidden, which stages, why can't they do the same for costumes?

Oh, I can think of a few explanations. Let's say they have a release schedule for the characters, which they want to stick to, but then they realize that Ermac's main costume is glitching up a storm. What do they do? Reveal glitching costume and hope it doesn't do anything funky on stream? Change up their release schedule at the last second and reveal another character instead? Or just use the not-glitching, fully complete alternate look?

Or let's take Kitana, they redesigned the character away from her traditional stripperiffic outfit, but they couldn't have known in advance that everyone would fall in love with it. So maybe they have another costume for her that's less ambitious, and her reveal trailer was an experiment - if reaction is positive, it'll be her primary in the story. If reaction is negative, they'll roll it back to her alternate.
 
Given that they actually aged up Kung Lao, I don't think he'll just be a revenant the entire time in story mode. It would also be kind of odd if Jax of all characters was the only one actually revived.
