I respectfully disagree.
I also want new characters, new stories, new focuses, more oxygen to the lore.
But 99% of the characters doesn't need to go away and never be brought back like this.
What you want is another game, but with fatalities, and possibly with some characters that are immortal, and that would put all long life span Outworlders on the count. Ok that human characters should die at some point, but as a natural thing, not as erasing them just to have a new lore. We can explore other places too.
And these returning characters are not all immortal. Sub-Zero isn't. Yet, he is a must.
Kotal Kahn's experience is working well. He is brand new, deals with old classic characters very well.
We are having the chance to tell the tale in a different way, make different choices. But we don't need this 99% forgotten, this is erase the past, and that's something that not even the so called "reboot" did.
Kotal Kahn is a very good example. He is not son of nobody pre existent, but he has connections to Shao Kahn and is disputing the throne with Mileena, allied with Reptile and asked help for Sonya. I think that's a good start.
I want new horizons, but we must remember why MK is MK and that everything is connected.
