Late last month a French game site Jeuxvideo posted a questionable hands on review of an early version of Mortal Kombat (2011). In the review they discuss the presence of a the classic Test Your Might and Test Your Sight mini-games along with two new ones: Test Your Strike and Test Your Luck.
Well it turns out their information was correct. IGN just posted a video that takes a look at the Challenge Tower and Test Your Luck features of Mortal Kombat (2011).
The Challenge Tower looks to be quite interesting, it is made of over 300 different missions. Like there is a mode where Sub-Zero teaming up with Scorpion to battle Shao Kahn when there is limited damage settings enabled. The video also shows Stryker and Johnny Cage fighting off zombies in the Graveyard, as well as Stryker in some grenade throwing mini-game.
Test Your Luck is new feature that pits you against random ever changing unique game variables like the fighters not having arms, sticky floors and upside down fighting. Imagine if they took the Kombat Kodes from Mortal Kombat 3 and made them crazier and random.

I have a feeling this is just the tip of the iceberg of what we have in store for us. This is already shaping up to be the best Mortal Kombat game yet. What do you guys think?
Finally get a glimpse of the klassic costumes (Scorp/Sub) in game! I wonder what that prize could be if you get to the end?! "Endgame" sound like it's you vs. all characters and you can't lose any health...

The prize at the end has me extremely curious. I wonder what it is... A character unlock? An MK II teaser (yes, I'm saying MKII... This is a reboot in my mind)?
It has got to be huge, whatever it is. I'm so excited.
The footage shown in this video was fantastic. The klassic costumes look amazing! Stryker looks amazing! Sindel looks amazing! A headless Ermac was still sexy! ZOMBIES!!! The bottom of the pit looks amazing! The Cloverfield level looks amazing! Test your might! Test your SIGHT?? YES!!

I did watch the video, and the character poses on the challenge tower aren't discolored, only during the actual match.

We didn't see the challenge tower for Zombie Goro or Yellow-Blue Shao Kahn.

The only way I can see it being Smoke is if it's some kind of pallet swap battle.
It looks like its Cyrax, not Robo-Smoke. The one that is not selected is dimmer than the one that is selected in the tower. Look at the beginning. The selected Jax is normally colored while the other Jax picture just above it is much darker. So, when they scroll past Baraka to the robot, it wasn't highlighted and hence it is Cyrax but darkened.
Anyway, wow what an update! Classic Scorpion and Sub-Zero!! They look good. The bottom of the Pit! Awesome! The whole Challenge Tower is a fantastic idea and will keep us hooked for hours and hours. The Bridge also looks amazing....can't wait!!
Level 300 should be beating 3 bosses w/o taking a hit.(Goro, Shao Kahn, and maybe Kintaro)
Judging by the programmers sentence structure the reward could be unlocking Shao Kahn but I never thought he was incredibly fun to play as. I think a better reward would be some sort of half retro/half 2011 hybrid. Sort of like what Mario Galaxy 2 pulls off on certain levels.

Nah. Pause the video just as it transitions from the tower to Mike. You can see the Tower highlight "The Hard Way". Cyrax remains gray even though the coin symbol is very much yellow.
I haven't played Mario Galaxy 2 but that would be a cool idea. I hope that's not the way to unlock Shao Kahn, that would be lame and he isn't that fun to play with.
Wow is all i can say...this looks PHENOMINAL!! A great update indeed, and i hope we get more this week.
We haven't even seen the new Krypt yet either!!!
Regarding the Smoke debate, I don't think NRS would reveal the character w/out the usual pomp and circumstance. I think it's Cyrax - in many of the past videos Cyrax's color has been a bit dark, almost grayish.

They have certain levels that are throw back to the original games yet still fun, challenging, and modern in its own way.

Maybe there will be Checkpoints. Like, every 20 rounds or so you can save.

Unless Smoke is going to be a palette swap of Cyrax, that isn't Smoke. Notice how Cyrax and Sektor, while both cyborgs, have very different looks? Why then would the team decide to make Smoke a simple palette swap? I think that if he's in the game and is in cyborg form, you'll see a totally different look. Sorry guys, for whatever reason, Cyrax is grey-ed out on level 7 of the Challenge Tower.

oh my ****ing god!!! that was soooo awsome! i cant belive how many modes and minigames this game's gonna have!!!!!!!!!!!1 im so exited i just can yet to get my copy of the game!!! now the big question is if this was the "great announcment" they were talking about... i think this is awsome but i still hope this isnt it because i wanted to see kabal or raiden... any way, this is the first time we saw the roof, styrker, shao kahn, goro fighting, scorpion's and sub's alternate costumes and more... omg XD
Looks interesting. These types of modes have always infuriated me though, as I'm not very good at fighting games in general.
More noteworthy for me was the addition of the Pit's lower half. How awesome did that look? Also, the Street reminds me of Fallout 3, which is a good thing.

The Pit Bottom is stunning. I nearly wet myself when I saw it.
I especially love the little creature seen in the background, chewing on the dead bodies.
I laughed so hard I cried at Mileena's teddy bear. This is going to be the greatest game ever. I'm so happy. I do believe this is the best announcement we've gotten!

I see a picture of young Shang Tsung when it gets to the part about Test Your Luck. Keep pausing and playing when the slot moves and you'll see him eventually.

This looks good, the wait is killing me. The game looks amazing the klassics costumes look good. SHao Kahn's model looks cool glad he got his moves. Can't wait to play this game.

On a side note - I'm pretty sure there will be trophies/achievements based on this mode, like finish 100, finish 200, and complete the tower

yea most likely, there will be a good amount of achievements in the Challenge tower.
After doing side by side comparisons, and I have an eye for things so after this comment no .******* remarks, There are differences in the armor's of both, The chest Plate for instance on yellow cyrax it's bulky and extends outward, this gray Smoke/Cyrax has very slim, and the out line is slightly different, same as the helmets, there's 2 minor lines that inner connect that are not on Cyrax's helmet, but this could just be Render vs in game model issue, cause what the Character render looks like is a little bit different than in game model, but the shoulder pads them selves are outlined a tid bit different too/ while i'm still sure it's Cyrax let's quit being an Arsehole to other's and just wait and see

You posted this in another thread. I HIGHLY DOUBT they would just pallet swap Smoke. This is an entirely new game. There's no need for that.
If you really want to believe that is Smoke, you go on right ahead.

Dude hate to burst your bubble but the image name means nothing. Some one else thought it was Smoke, screen capped it and named it that. It is not official. Just another fan naming it that. Means nothing at all and they said their will be no palette swaps and that is clearly a gray Cyrax. As a Smoke fan my self, I don't know why anyone would hope that this is Smoke. I would feel ripped off if he was the only character that didn't get his own look. Good thing it not him and he will have his own HUMAN look.(wishful think)
Everything looks cool except a few things I don't like too much.
Firstly the brightness of the video. Everything looked way more colorful and happy. Maybe it's just the darkness setting but it didn't seem as dark and evil as all the previous videos.
I don't care too much for the old costumes on Sub and Scorp.
Kahn also looked like he has a really boring design compared to Mk3. Too Cartoony Bring back the Crome Armor!!
I hope he can still punch you across the screen.
Sorry to say negative things but I do like everything else about the game.

eh ur right i guess i jus got excited cuz i really liked cyber smoke over the human pallete swap. but either this challenge tower looks ****ing amazing!!!!!

That video was amazing and all the missions seem really cool. Know I don't know what to start first the Story mode or The Challenge Tower, most likely the Story mode. The bottom of the pit did look amazing.
The last mission does not require you to not be hit they said that that would be really hard to do and can't wait to see if someone can.

You can choose the challenge, so I guess it saves automatically after each challenge completed.
Anyway, this video is just awesome. And to think that I was excited about 2D gameplay, classic roster, awesome graphics... This video made me realize that this MK has much more to it than we can possiby imagine. April 19th now seems farther away...
This game's replay value has suddenly sky-rocketed. MK will keep us all playing for a long time to come. This challenge tower is the best news to come out about this game yet.

Guys, it's Cyrax. Same exact model. But then again, maybe this is an old build of the game and that picture is just a placeholder for Smoke? Probably not, but it's possible.

I've noticed the energy bar too, as some of you stated. What you didn't say about it though that i found interesting was that where it used to be an "X", for the x-ray, now is an "E". I wonder why?

The "E" is for "Enhanced" for the Enhanced Special moves.
If you notice when they earn the Breaker the emblem rotates between the "E" and the Lightning Bolt for the Breaker. I still remain adamant that X-Rays will be redubbed Brutalities in the final version and that is why I believe you don't see a character earn an X-Ray during this new video.

I agree, when the bar gets full the X will appear as I have seen in previous gameplay videos.
I'm so stoked over this new mk that I registered here just to post how stoked I am. I've been waiting since umk3......thought my mk days were over. Everything is looking EXCELLENT. Let's hope the gameplay feels good when we get our hands on it and we might have ourselves another mk klassic. I do wish though my Klassic sub and scor looked more serious and cool. Seem too colorful. Maybe if just the black/blue/yellow were darker with suites more cloth lookin then plastic. Hmmm I found evidence to the contrary in the new video. I really thought X-Ray's would be renamed Brutalities but that may not be the case.
If you guys notice in the very top row there are icons that will disable use of Enhanced Specials, Breakers and on the far right one that will gift you with an X-Ray Attack:

Looks like X-Rays may remain being called just that because you can see all three icons used in the Super Bar. The "E" for Enhanced Specials, Lightning Bolt for Breakers and the "X" for X-Rays.

anyone notice towards the end of the video, the two fighters in the background of the pit stage.. they are hard to see, but it looks like kenshi and quan chi. Also, why is the animation of these fighters in the background of the pit so much better? This is what I was imagining the animation would be like for the main fighters

It's Daegon vs Kenshi. The animation looks really good because it is literally a real, choreographed, motion-captured fight set to repeat between two of the martial artists that helped mo-cap the moves in the game.
