Okay, so a while back I messaged MovieBob, aka, The Game OverThinker, and asked him about his thoughts on the sexualization of the women in MK9. And he replied back, saying:

Mortal Kombat's stated design aesthetic is a fusion of oldschool kung-fu movies and "high-fantasy" art; both of which exaggerate the sexual characteristics of the human form. So it's entirely appropriate.

Then I replied back telling him about the rumors of the Mileena costume, to which he also replied:

If so, that's also wholly appropriate. It's Mortal Kombay, it's SUPPOSED to be sleazy.

Now, this guy has done quite a few videos about the sexualization of female characters in videogames. I was actually quite surprised that he actually approved of MK9's sexualization women. So what are your thoughts on what he said?
P.S Yes, these are the REAL messages he sent me on the Escapist. I swear I am NOT lying.
 
I think that he's bashing the game by insinuating that Mortal Kombat is sleazy and is supposed to be for guys that just want to see chicks naked.

Also, who is this guy?
 
idk but i dont get how anybody can say the chicks are over sexualized? all girls have breasts?? its not like their making sexual gestures with their weapons or something.

It's the fact that all the chicks have BIG breasts and have breast physics applied to them, and have costumes that expose their breasts.

if your walking down the street and u see 3 chicks with large breast. are they overly sexualized? most girls in games have breast physics if people havent noticed even when theyre not meant to be shown off its still there. I think people just get lil bothered by the females in this game lol. really. mileenas is skimpy but hasnt she always been?

The ones in MK all have huge breasts, very little clothing, and act 'sexy'.
 
The costumes of female characters were not that modest modest to begin with, although one can argue that it's been pushed further over the years. That being said, it's a backwards world were partially nudity is taboo while explicit violence is accepted.

Sonya's outfit wasn't that 'sexy', really (in terms of skin showing) and when the female ninjas first appeared, they just wore body suits that didn't show any cleavage and high boots. They were much more covered up than they are now, that's for sure. I think Sonya's outfits have probably been the most descent throughout the years.

It's kinda funny, though, how everyone mentions Mileena's outfit when it comes to this sort of discussion yet hardly anyone mentions Sheeva, and she wears the least of anyone.
 
Depending on the game, huge tits and slutty costumes is fine. But I don't want that in MK. I'm fine with it in Soul Calibur or Dead or Alive, because those aren't meant to be as serious as MK. Not saying MK is a serious game all together, but the characters should be at least a little bit serious. This reason is why I don't like any of the females in MK9. My favorite female character is Frost because she's dressed at least somewhat decently and she's not a stripper.

Mileena is more well-known I suppose, or easier to remember. But I have no problem with Sheeva's outfits, because it fits her kind of amazonian style.

As far as I can tell, the violence over sex thing seems to be mainly in America. I remember watching Heroes, and Claire woke up while she was having an autopsy performed on her and you could clearly see all of her organs on account of most of her body being cut open. And all of this was on NBC, a channel anybody with a TV can get. It's really ironic how on regular TV we can be shown in great detail the insides of people, but nudity is frowned upon...
 
Im a guy and like Breasts! You dont see me bashing their outfits! Breasts physics make it more real just like hair/clothes physics and Bo Ria Cho's belly physics people make it into a bigger deal then it needs too be. It seems more people are more worried about sexual appealing outfits then they are the violence. I personally really havent seen anything overboard so far. Sure some aspects might bother some people but really its just pixels some people need to get of their high horse and calm down.

Edit: Im not saying I wouldnt like less revealing outfits because I would like that to make it seem a little more realistic but really I dont care theres better things to worry about

Some characters fit the bill, such as Mileena, but shouldn't someone like Sonya take a hint from the likes of The Boss in Metal Gear Solid, becoming a solid character rather than a solid caricature? I know a lot of ladies; some flaunt their vagina like there's no tomorrow, and some are incredibly layered individuals. Every character with breasts in Mortal Kombat fits the bill of the former rather than the latter.

Is it a problem? Not necessarily; Mortal Kombat ultimately does not matter in the grand scheme of things -- which may anger some around here, but there are bigger things going on in the world right now than videogames as a medium. Furthermore, it is not necessarily a strong influence among young people. I do, however, think it is childish; it's sort of like when you go out drinking and then your buddy who you're kind of embarrassed of but hang out with anyway starts farting and acting manly. You want to go "Hey, tone it down a notch, The Situation. We know you've got balls, but act your age for a minute."

I mean, yeah, for the most part, the SF ladies are covered a little more than the MK ladies but you can still see a fair share of butt, lol.
