SPOILER ALERT:Mortal Kombat X DIGITAL COMIC DISCUSSION

Wow, I wonder what it is. Probably something like choosing to support Goro or agreeing with the council about neglecting his claim to the throne.

Whatever it is, I hope Kintaro makes it out alive. He's not that popular, but it would really suck if he gets killed off before Sheeva lol

Someone poke me when we're back to Reiko... all this with the Shokans, Kotal and Scorpion seems to have been the focus for the last couple of comics. I'd like to see some progress beyond it soon.

Ooh, a surprise visitor at Kang temple. Maybe we're gonna get our first glimpse of Daegon in the comic?

Aw, I like Sheeva! They just never gave her anything to do.

With playable Goro now possible though I imagine she will in fact be on her way out.

I think he's very much in agreement with it already--he sounded pretty hostile to Goro last chapter.

I disagree.

"And if I enter that contest?"
"Careful Goro, you are crippled"

It seems like Kintaro still has respect for Goro. He was just reporting what the Shokan council had agreed upon.

His snarl as he "warns" Goro implies to me that it's a veiled threat. "And your father's not here to protect you" doesn't sound very friendly either. If I was trying to tell a prince I respected to be careful, I wouldn't do so by implying that he needs protection... especially not if he's from a warrior culture where the ability to fight means everything.

It's not conclusive, though. Kintaro could just be a perpetually angry individual who used the fewest words possible to get his idea across because Kittelsen had other things to worry about.

I blame the snarl more on the artist. Dude is terrible. Go back and take notice of Reptile's red blood.
The father line definitely comes across as condescending, but maybe Shokan are just blunt. Either way, we'll find out soon enough.

Reptile character development! I'm more interested in this chapter than any of the Shokan, Scorpion or Sub-Zero-centric chapters we've had lately

"I failed. And after that, I continued to fail"

Rarely do you see jobbers actually talk about jobbing. Almost invokes sympathy

Reptile confirmed canon jobber, failure at life in general. :dong: :( Kotal Kahn confirmed captain of the Titanic, will not leave unless everyone else gets off the ship first. Super excited for this chapter.

Obligatory JOHNNY CAGE PUNCHED PEOPLE WHEN I HAD GIVEN UP ALL HOPE!

I mean, it's Reptile.

In a flashback to the most jobbing moment of Reptile's career.

Which we have already seen before.

But I will sit here and take it.

Did anyone read that article that accompanied the preview?

The writer had no funking idea what he was talking about. Reading that made me want to smash my phone. He said he was disappointed that Cary Tagawa wasn't drawn as Shang Tsung. And in a cheap effort to appeal to the MK crowd, he thought that every C gets changed to a K, so he wrote "Solikitation", not knowing that only words where the C acts like a K gets changed.

What a Goof. I hate it when the media tasks people who have no idea about the subject matter to report on it to the general public. It serves nothing but disappointment. This reminded me of that IGN segment between that dude that had no idea what he was talking about and Ed Boon, and it got embarrassingly awkward because Boon pretty much had to say random shit in order to not make the stream completely silent.

Wow. Reptile getting some spotlight in the comics? That's long overdue, but at least it alleviates him from the "beyond junk" status. He's not wearing his MK9 costume but honestly it looked retarded. And why his blood is red?
Btw did anyone see Sonya's hand on the cover? I thought that was Goro's for a minute. Kotal's headgear makes his face look flat too :/

These flashbacks are some of the most thrilling stuff in the comics. I wish they would put more emphasis on them and not just tease us with generic stories of how one spared another's life. I think it would be awesome if we got a comic depicting the court life during the House of Shao Kahn reign in medieval times. Every interesting character in the comic would be there, starting with the Emperor and continuing with Shang Tsung (entering his service 500 years ago and making his way up), Kitana, Mileena, Baraka, Jade, Ermac, Rain, Reptile, Reiko, Kotal, Tanya, Goro, Kintaro, Sheeva, Motaro, D'vorah (when did she enter the Outworld court?), Skarlet, maybe with cameos from Havik, Quan Chi and Daegon.

Imagine the court intrigue, the alliances formed, the coups planned, the romances, the friendships. Did Reptile have his own bodyguards? Was he a general and in a position of power where he commanded battalions? Were there lesser lords ruling over the conquered territories, like Kitana being in charge of the Edenians? Did Reptile ever think about taking a human wife and attempt to have offspring? What were their dreams at a normal life? How about a Jade-Reptile match-up? :) I've always wondered what Shao Kahn did in his spare time. Did he just sit on his throne and give orders? Was he ever happy? Maybe he didn't use to sleep at all fearing an attack and grew more mad with every day. But I'd like to see a man with a vision, not the Shao Kahn brute NRS showed us. A man who truly believes that he can make a better world gaining power and destroying the Elder Gods, a man who loves Kitana more than just as a daughter. They did some of that in the MK Conquest series and it was great, but it was more from the perspective of the Earthrealmers Kung Lao, Siro and Taja. And reasons for why the Empire decayed, with the Emperor's conquered lands becoming barren and food becoming scarce.

The Samurai skins for Shinnok, Kitana and Kenshi make me imagine that interesting things (a conflict?) happened in Feudal Japan hundreds of years ago. Maybe Shinnok tried again to escape and he was defeated by the combined forces of Raiden and Shao Kahn, with the Emperor serving the Elder Gods one last time. That would be a good reason for why Shao Kahn and Shinnok never made an alliance. And Kenshi is God knows how old (maybe he was alive during those days). We just know that he was cursed. The Samurai pack should relate to something.

Or, if the court of Outworld is not interesting enough for a comic series, then how about the court of the Edenian Kingdom in the time of the war with Outworld? Young Kitana, Rain, Taven, Daegon, Jade, Tanya, Sindel, King Jerrod and his generals (pre-Ermac fusion), Argus, Delia, even Raiden, Fujin and cryomancers on the side of the Kingdom of the Gods and Shao Kahn with Reiko, Drahmin, shokans, tarkatans and enenras attacking. Perhaps a siege like in Troy lasting for years until all of Edenia falls with the death of Argus and the entering of Shao Kahn's troops in the capital where he kills King Jerrod.

Sorry for the long post, this comic just makes me thinking more and more about the Mortal Kombat Mythology...

I think it's pretty clear that Reptile is a complete nobody in this timeline right now. I don't think he's ever commanded so much as anyone's respect.

The MK universe is certainly potentially big enough that it could eventually support more than the one comic, but only the hardcore fans care about that. Kittelsen's job is to tell a story. Hopefully he'll feel even more free to expand on the world as the comic keeps selling.
