PC version of Mortal Kombat 9...

MK9 has tons of content to offer, no doubt.

I doubt it would have been such a huge hit, if it came after a series of MK games, that marked a gradual progress, instead of the abysmal MK vs DC, and the pretty poor quality, horrendously uninspired Armageddon. The contrast was just too obvious, plus, return to the 2D roots.

B.i.t.c.h., please. This game was destined for greatness.

The only thing that would make it better, would be if the basic concept of the fatalities held more diversity - more original ideas in that aspect would have really complimented things.

Well they tried that with Armageddon and look what they've ended up with: a horribly boring fatality system where you have to stack the same kind of moves with every character. :D

I think fatalites are not that important to be on that level, I mean they are fun and all and certainly achieve the wow factor in casual players but after a while you start to not really care about them and focus on the fighting mechanics instead.

You're absolutely right, of course. What I meant wasn't the introduction of a Kreate-a-Fatality system though, but simply more original ideas in the fatalities themselves. Some of them are brilliantly vicious, but some tend to be rather boring, and pretty rehashed.

Ermac and Noob are top-notch, for instance. If you don't fall in love at first sight with the "Make a wish" fatality, then you're just not cut out for MK :D I especially like the idea for Shang Tsung's second fatality, the soul possession one.

Both Sindel's fatalities are quite lackluster, though the "Scanners" type one seems nice. They both revolve around the concept of a head blowing up...

Sonya does seem to take the prize for the most boring fatalities, if it comes to me. They could have graced Quan Chi with more thoughtful fatalities as well, since his second one is just lame beyond belief. The first one is nice indeed, even though it's a rehash taken directly from MK4, with a slight change.

He's like an insanely cool necromancer, couldn't they think of anything better in that aspect? His X-ray kicks ass, they should have given him an equally suitable fatality as well.

I don't like the idea of Kratos being in the game, but I have to admit - his first fatality does give one the creeps. Painfully vicious.

Yeah well fatalities are hit and miss really. What I appreciate though is that there are no horrible ones in MK9, like for example the one with Quan Chi in Deadly Alliance. Just have a look, insanely horrible:

:DD When I was playing Deadly Alliance I just quit going with Quan Chi after seeing this. :D

ROFL, this one's pretty comical! Hadn't seen it before....

Forgot to mention Skarlet's second fatality - brilliant! The way she stabs herself in the belly, and morphs into blood is a lovely idea. Once I saw it, I thought to myself "Now THAT's the best fatality in this game".

My favourite is probably Razor's Edge from Kung Lao: simple but brutal execution. :D

I have MK9 on PS3 but think i'll get it for PC. The online will be better for MK9 on PC but hope I can use my PS3 controller somehow on it.

As far as wired controllers, it sounds like they'll support the TE sticks which may make wired PS3 controllers just work, but they are Bluetooth and easy to pair and use with your PC with the right drivers. Xbox 360 has drivers as well but you'll need their dongle for wireless controllers, wired are much easier as well.

Yes it will sell well I'm also certain of that. New Mortal Kombat after 15 years and it's the highest rated game in the series? Everyone and their mothers will buy that. As soon as the pre-order pops up on the store page of Steam it will just blow up.

The thing that really differentiates MK from all the other fighting games is the fact a lot of casual gamers buy it because they just want to do the fatalities or in the case of MK9 play the story mode.

I am also certain that it will sell well. If Alan wake that is a single player game was able to sell so well after 2 years release on pc then imagine how well a fighting game that is mainly online game will sell!!! Now i am curious to see if it will recoup the development costs 2 days after release or if it recoup them during preorders even before release. !!

All seems good, I just hope they keep the local Co-op. Two players on one PC going online in a tag team match. Also I dont think we should worry about sales if the port is good, Alan's Wake released 2 years later to and it did pretty darn good. They made their money back on the port for 48 hours on steam, hope MK9 can outdo that.

They will keep the local co op dont worry about that. Since big picture mode released more and more games are supproting local co-op/splitscreen. Some recent examples of that is RE6 and GRID 2. You will need to connect 2 360 controllers on the pc to do that

Expecting Alan Wake caliber sales would be asking for too much I think. That's a Remedy game, PC gamers love Remedy games, it was advertised as a PC game before going 360 exclusive and basically reached cult classic status by the time it came out on PC. Also it's TPS action, a much more popular genre on PC than a fighting game. Anything can happen though of course.

Anyway in slightly related news, the Scorpion DLC just got announced for Injustice:

Pretty sweet! Now I want a PC version, that design is badass.

I see some of the combos are still the same from MK9, that means scorpion pro's will feel right at home.

We dont even know how much alan wake sold on pc in 2 days in order to recoup the develpment cost. We dont know it, because valve dont give sales numbers. If valve was releasing their sales numbers then we would have a better picture about how well each pc version sells. TPS action games are a lot more popular on pc than fighters because the only TPS that are not coming to pc are those that are made by some japan console exculvive developers. 9/10 TPS action games that are released evry year are coming to pc. But for fighters until now only Capcom are making them on pc, in other words it is the developers fault that fightes are not so popular on pc because it was them who choosed to not make them for pc. When only one company releases this genre on pc how can we expect to be as popular as TPS?? But now something is changing it seems.

Yes, after MK I'm sure the genre will get more spotlight on PC and more fighters will apper for sure. Anyway why I think they won't sell as many copies as Remedy did with Alan Wake comes from a simple fact really apart from it simply being a TPS: Alan Wake is sold everywhere.

Remedy self-funded the porting and published the game themselves so they could go to places a new Microsoft title would never go: for example being DRM free. Alan Wake on PC is basically handled like an indie title: you can pick it up on Steam, on GOG and just a week ago it was on sale at the Humble Bundle site where if you paid 1 dollar you got the Alan Wake CE bundled with American Nightmare and a bunch of extras, it was insane. Steam keys were available and a DRM free version was available directly from Humble Bundle. Remedy can do everything they want with the PC version and gather more sales and money the way they want and that's a kind of freedom MK9 will never have. Also Alan Wake is out not only on Windows but on Mac and Linux. No chance of MK9 outselling that really.
