Must restart everything on Mortal Kombat

I just sat down to play MK after getting home. I usually have my USB plugged in the console. The only reason I have one is because my older brother is going move out of the house soon, so i decided to have all my save data on this USB to prepare for the move (because he's taking the 360 with him). Well, the MK game would usually ask to load either the Hard Drive or my USB. The past couple of times it hasn't been doing that. So I went to system settings to check and see if there was any data under my gamer tag for MK saved on the Hard Drive, and there was. I thought that was probably the reason why it wouldn't ask which device I wouldn't, so I move the data to my USB to see if it would solve the problem. Turns out that the auto save feature had saved a completely new save game file in the Hard Drive and when I moved it to my USB, it saved over it. So I get to start all of Mortal Kombat over again. Challenge Tower, Story Mode, Krypt. And maybe online stats? I beat Story Mode, was on Challenge 248, and unlocked 100% of the Krypt, now I must start over. I feel sad by this tragic occurrence, but on the positive side I get to spend even more time unlocking everything and (wait for it) The Challenge Tower, starting from Challenge One, again. xD So my question is, has this ever happened to you (on your favorite game or on a game where you are close to unlocking everything.) The loss of precious save data is quite disturbing, but is a chance for a type of renewed interest in a game. And for the people that this has happened to, I COMPLETELY FEEL YOUR PAIN. (I would like to note that this is my first post, sorry if it's not up to standards)
 
I that happened to my halo data, I would be pissed. I'd lose hundreds of hours of work in forge. Otherwise, I wouldn't care too much.

I'm ok with not having the unlockable characters, my main is Jade. I usually pick her primary costume with the alt color, but other than that I'm just worried about Challenge Tower again, which I will finish without skipping, I skiped one the first time and it nearly killed my conscience, I see this as redemption for that mistake :D
 
Yh, in Toy Story 2 for PS1 when i was a child I lost all my lives (campaigns had limited lives in that times) and then a pop up asked if you wanted to "Save" or "Load", i selected "Save" so the game saved that I lost so i had no more campaign data, that was a sad day... and games were longer at that times and i had to start all over the game...
 
I spent hours on a forge map in Halo:Reach only to have it not save properly. (I even have the theatre footage of me making it)
And I also accidentally deleted all of my sisters Guitar Hero 3 saves on ps2, needless to say, she was pissed.

I would use forge if I were good at it. But everytime I think I have an idea, it looks bad on screen. Have you tried remaking the map? I would if it were really cool.
 
It wouldn't let me copy my PS2 Mortal Kombat files from a memory card to my 60gb PS3 because the files are protected. That was annoying! But I had fun playing through Konquest mode on Deception again.

I'm pretty terrible at it, but i'll admit it was one of my better maps, I just cant really be bothered to rebuild it.
 
I wouldn't mind if something like that happens because everytime I go to a friend's house or my uncle's house, I always back up my data on my USB. Since there are four different types of save data, I back them all up just in case the worst happens.

I remember one time that I was at my uncle house and I shared my profile on his system. I accidently beat the game with Kratos and it unlocked his alternate and the trophy for unlocking all alts. But it was on his system so it nullified the trophy on mines and I had to delete all my data and start all over. It didn't take me long to get everything back and once I got the trophy on my PS3, I put the save data from my USB back on the HDD.

You can go back to skipped challenges.

Yeah I do know about that, I went back and beat it anyway. I just got frustrated because no matter how much I practice, I will never be good with Liu Kang or Kung Lao. And it didn't help that Kahn and Kintaro would spam all their moves.

I would delete my saved file for MK:Deception just to play through Konquest. Played through it like 10 times. Not only for Konquest, but I would also just restart because i was so into playing Deception, my second favorite after MK(2011) because I liked the mechanics and it also had Jade.
