Mortal Kombat 1 General Discussion Media Thread

IDK unless there's a Kombat pack 3 on the horizon I don't see people running out to buy this game anymore IMO. I doubt most of the gen x ers who play MK even know who Ghostface is let alone Conan and t 1000. Anyway, now that Ghost face is out of the bag, That leaves only two DLC characters. It's just seems like another MK11 situation. Two Kombat packs followed up by dead silence than another MK announcement.....again. I don't get it personally but who am I to deflate someone elses excitement.

Imo, you'd have to be living under a rock if you're a Gen Xer and NOT know who Conan and T-1000 are, especially the latter when there was whole Universal Studios ride built on the story of T2 iteself with Arnold (T-800), Robert Patrick (T-1000) and the T-1 Million (which I'm guessing will be the Animality for him). Ghostface (Scream) appeals more to Millenials, though.
I don't care for guests, but I see what they're trying to do by bridging the gap with the guests.
Also, more people are asking for MK1 through UMK3 characters like Jade, Kintaro, Sonya, Kano and Jax since those aren't on the main roster of MK1.
A pack with any mix of those those MK characters would sell well as they are klassic characters.

Between main roster and kameos they could turn MK1 into another Armageddon if they wanted to (the main story mode already essentially did an Armageddon 2.0) and keep pumping out characters and guests and people would keep buying them. It's also much cheaper and easier for them to pump out characters, kameos and updates rather than them having to make a whole brand new game from scratch with new mechanics. Every update seems to have new or klassic skins added to the shop as well. Not long ago it was 3D era Mileena, and with Ghostface's release now MKII Kitana is coming out. That shit alone (klassic and 3D era skins) sells like hotcakes, and keeps funneling money their way.

My friends told me that he watched the Ghostface trailer a few days. Kobra and Kira are the other 2 Ghostface, and the Enforcers moves are the ones that Kobra has in MK Deception whereas the Assassin is literally Kira. In the Kombat Kast, they said it to be a “her”. I was like, "What?" I didn't expect Kira and Kobra to come back. I thought NRS didn't bring the two Black Dragon characters back to be playable in MK1. It's a good way to incorporate them back into the modern era, but it should've been Kira or Kobra for DLC, not cosplaying as Ghostface. I would've liked if they made a personal appearance rather than a variant. Kira has been my favorite since Deception. It means I won't get her as playable DLC, which is sad and only 3D era woman not to come back. It killed any hope I had for her and Kobra to be on the roster, reimagined for the new ERA after they brought back 3D era characters included Reiko, Li Mei, Ashrah, Havik, Shujinko (Kameo), Darrius (Kameo), Sareena (Kameo), Mavado (Kameo), Tanya, Bo' Rai Cho, Quan Chi, Kenshi, Shinnok, Fujin and Frost.

In general, Mortal Kombat doesn't feel like Mortal Kombat anymore. It feels like a free for all fighting game, where you add anyone for the sake of it, especially if it means to make more money. But because of chasing more money, NRS lost more of their OG community and now they have less money and all because of their greed and pandering to none existent so called "modern audience". So yeah, as much as I like the Scream movies, the original ones, and the character himself, I don't like the fact that he was added in to MK. Because, NRS never done any justice to existing characters. Characters that they created and then forgot about. And instead of bringing those characters back for 2 or 3 games, they are adding anyone but not those who should have been in the game. NRS is lazy and incompetent which is why they'll rather oversaturate the roster with guest characters that could be other MK characters and New original characters.
 
Well that completely contradicts the WB statement about supporting MK going forward. Obviously none of this has been confirmed by NRS but considering their track record with the way MK11 turned out. It doesn't really surprise me ether. I get extra character DLC, extra single player modes and new stages but story exspansions are pretty much pointless nowadays IMO. Most people that care about that stuff are in the minority and everyone else just watch it on Youtube. Charging 50 bucks up front for this was a huge misstep IMO. It's already down to $30 on psn and I suspect it will be down to 15 by Christmas. Most people are going to wait on the Komplete edition anyway (myself included) and it's painfully clear the whales aren't footing the bill. Rumours are rumours though so we'll have to wait and see what happens. To put a cherry on top of this shit sundae the newest DLC Ghostface has a Infinite that has yet to be patched out so yey.....

It is pretty much obvious outcome. Sales aren't the only thing that matters to WB. There is a reason why they were obsessed with Esports scene. They wanted the big bucks from advertisers. But now with pro scene being dead, MK has no financial future. Not to mention this game is crazy expensive to make. NRS had their fun with HYPER REALISTIC visuals, but WB is clearly done footing the bill for that. Especially if they can't deliver the numbers.

NRS got too comfortable, which just lead to them getting fat and lazy.

As much as I agree with you, It does make the most business sense for WBs. Forcing NRS to start from scratch with a brand new MK game would cost way too much to develop. Remakes/Remasters have been dominating the landscape for a while now. Wether it's a MK9 demaster or something else is anyones guess but they're not going to win the goodwill of the community back with the path they're on now.
 
If it really gets to that point, man.... all they really need to do is fix input bugs, hitboxes, p1 advantage and put rollback. But with NRS' track record, rollback is probably the only thing they'd get KINDA right....

They'll instead focus on dumb shit like covering up and flattening their wimmins, then going to Playboy to yell how real it is. And of course, premium currencies, a shop, maybe some cringe guest, suck the game's soul out, "balance" where it's even worse than MK9 as of now.... Then you'll have a bunch of shills doing their fake crying reactions and Redditors yell how it's SO MUCH BETTER NOW, MK is back, you're not a real fan, NPD charts etc etc etc

Whatever happens...I'm sure this is NRS last chance to make MK profitable again. WB has definitely given them a ultimatum ''make money or gtfo'' All the shills and gaslighting in the world won't save them this time. They'll have to do something drastic to stay alive.
 
They can give them any ultimatum they want. Problem is the devs and people making decisions. If people think, that they will suddenly embrace 3D Era/MK9 aesthetics, then they truly underestimate the level of Narcissism today's devs have.

Though one thing for sure. This New Era? Yeah. It is going into a trash can. Either a remake or new reboot. Remake would be a smarter choice, but WB/NRS aren't known for being smart.

All that I've honestly wanted left for this game are like 2 or 3 stage Fatalities.
Li Mei has been fun as hell to main, and kameo Frost has been fun with her.

That said, again, here we are in year 2 and with 0 Stage Fatalities, when in the same time during MKX and MK11 we had stage Fatalities by now.
Fucking sucks to have an MK game and NOT have stage Fatalities.
Yeah, I know that it's a petty thing to want in the grand scheme of things, but I would have preferred stage Fatalities to Animalities (personally).
The MK9 Subway & MKX Kove (Kraken) Stage Fatalities in MK9 and MKX (respectively) are probably my favorite stage finishers, with the Shaolin Trap Dungeon in MK11 being in close second.

And now, to pile on top, they want to fucking charge 500 Dragon Krystals each (the equivalent of $5) for KAMEO holiday skins for Frost and Sareena?
Yeah, WB and Zaslav can fuck ALL THE WAY off with that nonsense / horseshit.

That's because WB cut the cord. MK1 is done IMO. They're already showing Conan in game less than a month after Ghostface which only leaves T 1000. Once thats out of the way, it's just advertising the ''Komplete edition'' from there. If the rumours are true you might get some extra outfits and Kameos at best. I wouldn't hold my breath on new stage fatalities though.
 
Oh, MK1 support is cut for sure. The only thing that insiders were wrong about was KP3 list, but all shared the same knowledge about the cut support. And MK1 support being cut is an obvious choice. The game just doesn't bring the money. If entire game depends on only brand recognition, then it is just a waste of time and resources.

I mean, I don't expect stage Fatalities NOW, just that I was hoping for them at some point before the whole cancellation news / leaks came about.
Extra kameos and skins would be cool, I guess.
 
I'm thinking NRS will have no choice but to address the elephant in the room by the next Kombat Kast. It will definitely be interesting to see how Tyler spins this one.

Pretty much.
"We would like to announce that as of ___(insert date)___ now you too can get the 'Kumplete Edition' of MK1, with an additional 2 kameo characters as well!" (if that part is true). Since the chance of additional stages / stage Fatalities seems 0 to none now.
