How do you block an xray?

I'll be standing there blocking and I get x-rayed anyway. Does it differ from x-ray to x-ray? Like one starts with a low attack so you need to crouch block, and someone else's starts mid section so you need to be standing?

Yes, some are unblockable, but some you can avert differently...since Sheeva's xray is with a ground pound, you need to jump in the air when she initiates it.

Pretty much all of them can be blocked. Some like Jax's can be avoided by jumping. But most can be avoided by just moving around a lot. So I would advise you to avoid staying in one place.

I wish xrays are harder to do, it's just too easy right now for anyone to pull. At least make each character a different move set to perform xray. And xray should be punishable (hit them twice while performing to stop it) instead of just avoiding.

you must know how everyones x ray works. If your aware then you can avoid all of them. Just like everyone else has said, the ones that arent blockable can be avoided by jumping. Some are cheap tho like the teleporting ones noob / scorpion

Another good way to avoid an X-Ray is to notice when the opponent's meter is full, and then make sure you don't give them an opportunity to use it, or try to force them to use a Breaker.

This kinda depends on what type of player you're fighting, and if they are losing the round or not.
And the AI rarely uses X-rays. (in my experience)

Yes, but they are also the easiest to see coming. They both make a large move across the screen. And both can be stopped with a standard block.

Kano's and Jax's X-Rays are grabs so you must jump away or just stay away all together. All others are either low hits, so you crouch block, or they are body hits, so you are able to stand and block.

impossible to block on reaction online.

depends on the xray, what your doing, and how far away you are.

example if noob is full screen his xray is extremely fast, if its point blank it can be blocked on reaction. the main use for noobs xray is to avoid a losing projectile war.

if csz jumps hes usualy gonna do a dive kick or his xray which is...a dive kick. block

you can block reptiles from full screen on reaction but most competent players will use it to get around a projectile essentially gauranteeing them it willl hit.

but more importantly reading your opponent is a helluva lot more important online because of the delayed reaction.

to the person saying noobs/scorpion xrays are cheap...how so?

scorpions gets used the same way he uses a tele, and he has a rather slow tele anyway, blocking it is rather predictable. noobs can be a bit harder if your at full screen as it comes out much faster, but you know hes gonna use it soon if he has 3 bars and is losing healthwise while zoning/projectile wars.

It differs from everyone. With Jax and Kano, there are grabs. Johnny Cage's is a parry. Sheeva's starts with a ground pound.
If it is someone who can kombo into it like Scorpion, than use a breaker.

All X-RAY's can be blocked standing with a few exceptions:

Sheeva: be off the ground when she jumps, you should jump, fly, float, do whatever involves being in the air

Jax & Kano: These two are grabs, they can be avoided by jumping backwards, I heard they can be stopped by a sweep aswell but that takes super-human, matrix timing so just jump it.

Johnny Cage: I thought I'd put this here since it's still different to the rest, just don't hit him and you should be alright, I believe you can knock him out of it if you hit him with a projectile though. Most (average) cage players will use the X-RAY when they are being rushed down constantly so watch out for that, I've never played a good Johnny though so I don't know they'd use it.

Also, OP said about blocking low hitting X-Rays but they all hit high don't they? aside for the above, of course.

An additional note. Sindel's X-Ray hits low and thus must be crouch blocked. Skarlet's X-Ray is an overhead and will hit crouch blockers.

You just need to play against or as each character and study their x-rays. Some you can just block, others you have to jump or move out of the way, and some you can just stand still. (like JC or Cyrax) Once you know how they work you can better counter them.
