Help with smoke mk2 (if possible)

I have fought jade and i KNOW how to fight smoke but the problem is. toasty never appears when i uppercut my opponent on the portal stage. Is there any other way to get him to appear.

Oh and also. Is it down and start or select and start?. its just the pause menu is the select/back button.

The likelihood of him popping up during one of the few uppercuts you manage to land against a real opponent (or the AI) is pretty low. Just do a local two-player match without a second player and use nothing but uppercuts until it happens.
 
To add to this, I must point out that if you're using either the MAT2 version or the MKSM version of MK2, then you're screwed.
 
Chances are he's playing MKAK.

I actually did this accidentally. I knew something would happen if I press Down + Start when Dan Forden pops up. I just didn't know where. It's why I press Down + Start in UMK3 sometimes.

Smoke is real difficult though.
 
cool id like some tactics how to beat him. ive never seen anyone beat Noob on MK2 buy the way. If anyone could point me in the right direction to ACTUAL VIDEO PROOF id like it
 
Here is all the clues you get from jade and smoke, i still haven't had one klue yet on mk2 or mk1 on the arcade kollection

I can vouch for the rarity of such clues. I have the MAT2, MKSM, and stand-alone PS3 versions of MK2, and have not gotten a single Smoke or Jade clue in either version.

And Kung Lao's spin move works for getting a Toasty, too. Consequently, it will also work for finding Smoke. The spin move does less damage than an uppercut, so that means there's more chances for a Toasty with Kung Lao's spin move than an uppercut, especially in KL vs. KL matches in the Portal.

However, I can only beat Smoke with Liu Kang and Johnny Cage...
