When I think of tribal I think of the many Native American, Central American and South American tribes people, like the Soux, Inca, Aztec, Miccosukee and other peoples.
Ferra and Kotal fall under that category as does Nightwolf, to me.
Kotal seems to be inspired by the Aztec and I can't quite put my finger on which tribe Ferra most resembles in real life, but Torr is more of just a barbaric brute (Conan The Barbarian), IMO.

Isn't Conan descended from the Cimmerian tribe? Anyways, both barbarian and tribe are very vague in their use. Tribes can refer to Germanic and African people too, not just indigenous people of the Americas. Barbarian is just a subjective term for people who are considered brutish and/or uncivilized.

Yes, but indigenous people of the Americas doesn't automatically = barbarian, IMO.
Which is my point.
Uncivilized is a subjective term too, if you want to get all technical.
What may seem civil to me and you may seem uncivil to them.

Oh God this! We need Erron and Nightwolf in the same MK game eventually. You can't go wrong with a Native American Shaman and a Caucasian Texan Cowboy! It's one of those classic conflits we all love in the media.
 
Wait a minute. Since when voodoo practices and Native-Americans are related? And seriously, when I think MK couldn't be more about stereotypes people actually want them to go all full prejudiced stereotype mode?

Someone please tell me if this is indeed 2015.

Are you referring to the intro lines I made up? The intro lines from a character in an MK game? A cowboy who works for an Aztec-inspired demi-god fighting an undead superfreak created in a test tube? :D

Dear mandead, I'm usually not one to agree with "political correctness", but I do believe that MK has enough stereotype crap and doesn't need more, quite the contrary. Voodoo and Native-Americans aren't related, for starters. You may think that "a cowboy would say that", but that's an assumption made on - oh-ho! - prejudiced stereotypes, the kind of thought that "shamans, magic and all that crap are all the same".

MK needs to get mature, that's what I'm saying. We're in 2015, this is not about being political correct but about not being just plain ignorant. (More) Stereotypes won't add anything to the game.

I just wanted to finish the whole cowboys vs. Native-Americans BS from a different angle, to see if I make my point clear:

We still don't know much, if anything at all, about Erron Black. This is a new character with lots of potential which by the way has his visuals based on wild west, but that doesn't mean he is a generic cowboy. So what should we do with him to build him up as a serious contender for the next games? Throw him into a feud with Nightwolf (who's dead, by the way, and let's hope he stays that way for a few games) merely because he looks like a cowboy and Nightwolf is Native-American?! Seriously? You know what that'll lead to? Another waste of a character that will stick around to fill spots without ever being meaningful, like Jax. Erron Black looks a lot more than that to me, and MK has enough stereotypes thrown around that we simply don't need another one, that was my point. You'll waste a character with lots of potential, bring another one from the death simply to put them both as enemies based on a stereotypical vision and add nothing to the game in return.

I think mandead actually nailed it without noticing when he mentioned the influences of Kotal Kahn's character: yup, his looks and story is influenced by Aztecs, but is that all he is? Clearly not. One could even go deeper and say that the fact his people was oppressed BUT he had a thing for Shao Kahn nevertheless is a nod to the fact that lots of people who claims that they are "oppressed" are in fact seduced by the idea of being tyrannical oppressive rulers themselves. And heck, I know how that is, seeing as I live in a country full of socialist hypocrites who claim that they are "oppressed" but are just looking to be oppressors themselves. So, you see, there can be a lot more to the new characters than just stereotypical visions, and that's what moves the franchise forward.
 
If it wasn't obvious before, I would like to point out that those intro lines I wrote were very much tongue in cheek. It was just the amusing aspect of a 'cowboy' character facing off against a Native American who has previously been referred to as a shaman.

I wasn't trying to offend anyone or emphasise certain stereotypes, and I honestly kind of thought that was obvious. I was just coming up with a plausible, MK-esque intro sequence for both characters. :vroam:

Yah, my post actually wasn't meant to be offensive to you or even going nuts over what you said, I just wanted to point out what in my personal opinion are cheap stereotypes that won't add anything to the game. Erron Black has potential to be a serious character for the next games. Maybe I overreacted a bit and for that, I am sorry. Hopefully my latest post made things clearer. Do you accept a fine cup of coffee as a sign of friendliness?

Erron Black's hair keeps bothering me, i can't get used to it :B, i mean, is not awful, but i take a look at the comic and the concept art and keep asking myself why NRS couldn't make his hair right :/, i feel bad about it. The right side bangs overall :(.

I wish they could fix these little details somehow :)
