TRMK: Arguably, there is no franchise that is more important to Midway than the Mortal Kombat franchise. Have you been able to focus some extra time with the initial trilogy of Mortal Kombat games?

JB: Oh yes, these games were certainly the most challenging ones to get working properly on the PSP. That happens when the arcade machine is in some ways more powerful than the hardware we're working on.

KT: While the entire team that worked on this title took a lot of time and care to have the games come out correctly, we had one guy in particular that really grabbed the three MKs by the horn and got them nice and polished. Everything from getting the shadows to display properly, to having the ground scroll at the same speed was done by one guy on the team (with a little help of course). Those three games wouldn't look like they do on the psp without his care and attention.

JV: Just to tie together what Joe and Kelly are saying, all of these games were given a great deal of care. We love 'em all. The MK series, though, proved a great technical challenge on the PSP, as the overhead of emulation pushed it close to the limits of the platform. A lot of work went into keeping that framerate up and avoiding load times, which means a lot of custom work went into improving the graphics performance. Of course, we did that with a great attention to making sure no details suffered in the effort. So extra care was required to ensure that the graphics are 100% on the PSP.

TRMK: For those, including myself, who bought the Kollectors Editions of Mortal Kombat: Deception and Midway Arcade Treasures 2, can we expect some of the issues (i.e. shadows popping, sounds dropping and distorting, start button mapping) those two titles had with the first three Mortal Kombat's to be resolved in the versions included in Extended Play?

KT: I'm very happy to say that the shadows popping and sound issues have been resolved for Midway Arcade Treasures Extended Play. As far as the start button mapping goes, you're going to have to play it to find out.

TRMK: What excites you the most about Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play?

JB: This is the first time ever that these games have been playable over a network. 2-Player Joust? Sweet!

KT: I agree. While I wasn't around for Gauntlet in the arcades, playing it four player on the PSP is a lot of fun. Plus, you don't need to put in hundreds of dollars in quarters, which makes it even better! Also, beating anyone head to head in any of the 3 MKs is always satisfying.

JV: Pixel perfect portability... it's been a long time coming and I'm thrilled to have it.

We thank the development team at Digital Eclipse for their entertaining, yet very informative, answers. Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play is slated for a December 12th release on Sony's PlayStation Portable (PSP).
