Thanks to an accidental leak of the upcoming achievements in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, we now have the completed list of characters. Those not already confirmed include Baraka, Lex Luthor, plus uber-characters Shao Kahn and Darkseid.
Mortal Kombat
Scorpion
Sub-Zero
Sonya
Jax
Shang Tsung
Liu Kang
Raiden
Kitana
Kano
Baraka
Shao Kahn
DC Universe
Batman
Superman
Catwoman
Green Lantern
The Joker
Shazam
The Flash
Wonder Woman
Deathstroke
Lex Luthor
Darkseid

For now, you can view the whole achievement list via Xbox.com and see for yourself before it gets taken down. There are also lots of other interesting tidbits in the achievements list, like the mention of an unlock-able Dark Kahn, and some mystery mention of a jf.

Update - 12:15pm
Dark Kahn may be an amalgamation of each universe's super-villains, Darkseid and Shao Kahn. We've been hearing rumors from inside sources about this, so we're pretty sure this will be the game's end boss. As soon as we learn more, we will update accordingly.

Update - 4:30pm
Midway has now officially confirmed the final four characters. This makes it 6 out of 7 original playable characters from the original Mortal Kombat and 4 from Mortal Kombat II.

Today an additional cut-scene screenshot was added to Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon's personal website, noob.com. Ed continues to give us a tiny look at the single player campaign of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, something that we still to this day know very little about. This screenshot is the first one to contain a line of dialogue via sub-titles. We also get a first look at Baraka in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, as his arm is visible behind Shang Tsung.

Here are the other screenshots revealed so far:

Also of interesting note is the file names. They may mean nothing, but they all definately are named for a reason. They may continue to some overall word game that Ed has been running on noob.com since early this year. The words for these four images are in order of their appearance on noob.com: 1) Adversary, 2) Betrayal, 3) Confront, 4) Defer. So you code cracking fans out there, get thinking and maybe we can figure out what Ed is trying to tell us.

GameStop has the details on what your extra $10 will get you when you purchase the Collector's Edition of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. Thanks, jagrizzle.
  • Velvet box packaging
  • Collectible glycee print
  • 16 Page Comic
  • "Making of" DVD & T-Shirt
In addition to the already announced comic book drawn by Mortal Kombat co-creator, John Tobias, it appears that fans will receive a little bit more than in previous Collector's Editions. Given the fact that a t-shirt will be included, the Velvet box will need to be large enough to house the shirt, game, DVD, and print. This should make the Collector's Edition of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe very unique, compared to its predecessors.

Over the weekend, an additional cut-scene screenshot was added to Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon's personal website, noob.com. Ed continues to give us a tiny look at the single player campaign of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, something that we still to this day know very little about. This screenshot reveals a first ever look at Quan Chi in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. While this screenshot confirms his existence in Story Mode, many speculate that Quan Chi could be a playable hidden character; however, as we've seen with Konquest Mode in previous games, characters appearing in story modes doesn't guarantee their existence in the fighting modes.

It appears that Joystiq has gotten a chance to preview and recent build of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. But I would take the preview with a grain of salt. The article falls short of really talking about the new game, instead the writer is focusing on his views on the series, which he admittedly hasn't played "since Trilogy on N64," 12 years ago. So James Ransom-Wiley may not have been Joystiq's best choice for a reviewer unfamiliar with the series in the past decade.

Throughout the preview, there are a few good comments about the game, but they are buried in complaints about the series and other fighting games. Here are a few notable ones that stood out to me.
"MK vs. DC does succeed as an accessible fighter that's mostly contained on a two-dimensional plane"

"There are "Flashes" of appropriate brilliance, and there's certainly a sense of power, not unlike two super heavyweights planted firmly in the ring, slugging it out. Ironically, Midway nails it best with the Joker, a character that historically avoids hand-to-hand combat. His celebratory jig is especially alive on-screen."

"It's not intimidating, mostly relying on classic "Street Fighter" commands, and it's mashable -- I can't speak to its depth -- and there are some well-integrated "mini-guessing-games" mixed into the gameplay. Now there's a game I could throw on for my casual-fun-seeking friends and kill a few hours with, I thought. Sounds like Midway hit its goal."
Some little tidbits have been revealed though, from the start two character slots will be locked. Those, as was revealed earlier in the achievements leak, should be slots for end-bosses Shao Kahn and Darkseid. But instead of some research, the reviewer starts new rumors of Aquaman, Hawkman or Firestorm. I guess he didn't read the article on his own site announcing the character list that would have answered that question.

He also seemed to coin the DC heroes' Brutalities as a Heroic Brutality which makes sense. We're not entirely sure if this is the final wording for the finishing move, but we'll see if we can't find out. A release date of November 10th, 2008 is mentioned at the end of the article. We've heard this date rumor before, as it's listed on Gamestop.com currently, but it's still not the official date last we checked with Midway who still considers it to be Fall 2008.

Today online video game rental company GameFly has updated their site with what, to us, appears to be the final box art for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. It's similar to recent promotional materials we've seen circulating with Scorpion going head to head with Batman. Except now Wonderman, Superman, Raiden and Sub-Zero join the fray to fill out the cover of the box. The only thing it's missing is it's final rating, which has yet to be determined by the ESRB.

Gamestop has also unveiled the T-Shirt that will be included when pre-ordering the Kollector's Edition of the game. The front of it features a still shot of Joker's fatality, while the back shows Liu Kang giving a flying kick to The Flash. We previously thought this was to be included in all Kollector's Edition packages, but it appears it only will be available as a pre-order bonus either online or in store.

Midway has announced today that Mortal Kombat Kollection for the PlayStation 2 has been released and is in stores now. Mortal Kombat Kollection contains three of the most recent Mortal Kombat hits, including Mortal Kombat: Deception, the action-adventure game Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, and the roster-busting Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.

In anticipation of the launch of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe on current-generation consoles Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3, a large number of PlayStation 2 systems are still in people's homes. Midway is planning on capitalizing on the increased exposure of the Mortal Kombat franchise by releasing this special collector's edition box set exclusively for the PlayStation 2. Mortal Kombat Kollection is in stores now and is priced at $29.99.
