This weekend we received e-mails from kickboxer, O.D.B., and Dungeon Master regarding a hint put into the "Greatest Warrior" attract screen. Once in a while it will replace whoever's initials were there with MK5. It has roughly been two weeks since Revision 3 went nationwide, and since then we haven't received any e-mails until this weekend of people seeing this hint. As we reported earlier, MK5 would start development as early as two weeks after the nationwide release of Revision 3. This new hint has put a lot more weight in to that statement

Sandman2 sends word that in the April 1998 issue of Gamepro reports that MK5 is already in production and will be based on the successor of the Zeus graphic chipset, the Zeus II. TRMK reported back on December 21, 1997 that MK5 would start production in 2 months. This article in GamePro put an end to those who doubted it's veracity. Here's the article straight from Gamepro.

Midway has confirmed that two of its hottest arcade franchises are already ramping up with sequels. NFL Blitz ‘98 improves upon the raucous original by increasing the number of human participants to four. Meanwhile, it should prove as no suprise to anyone that Mortal Kombat 5 is officially in the works, this time based on Midway’s ZEUS II hardware, the still evolving successor to MK4’s circuitry.

Yesterday, Midway announced that it has bought back the rights to distribute Midway Games titles to the PC platform from GT Interactive Software. GTIS bought the rights back in 1995 and distributed in the past Mortal Kombat 3, and Mortal Kombat Trilogy among other Midway Games PC titles. Midway anticipates introducing new PC games for distribution in North America beginning in its June 30, 1998 fiscal quarter. This latest news more than likely results in all home versions of Mortal Kombat 4 will now be distributed by Midway Games in all arenas of the home market.

Speaking of the PC version, TRMK has confirmed that it is indeed Midway Home Entertainment who is distributing Mortal Kombat 4 to the PC platform instead of GT Interactive Software. In GameInformer's preview, they lauded the gameplay on the N64 console. This has been attained by an actual Code Converter. The actual arcade programing is running on the consoles, which results in a flawless gameplay conversion.

They may only be pictures from an old 15% complete build of MK4, but GameInformer has them and they're the first of their kind. Go check them out at their N64 MK4 Preview. However, the report is somewhat inaccurate. They mention that the company in charge of development was Midway Home Entertainment --this is false. All MHEI's involvement with the MK4 home version is the fully rendered FMV sequences on the Playstation version; Eurocom is handling all the developing. They also mentioned that Goro is going to be in the Nintendo64 version of MK4. This is not going to be an exclusive feature for just the N64. The Playstation and PC versions will also feature Goro as a hidden character

GameInformer has updated it's N64 MK4 Preview with answers to many questions posted on the alt.games.mk newsgroup. Note, that these answers only pertain to the 15% completed copy. They also feature 9 more screenshots consisting of Jarek's and Scorpion's second fatalities.

12:01 PM CST -
Many features have been changed and improved since the currently touring version. Also, it is extremely possible that every version will feature a brand new stage. It is supposed to be in a setting where Mortal Kombat has never fought in before. Don't get too hyped up, MK4 hits home in 67 days, which is still a long ways away
