Ryona and its (seemingly) increasing popularity

I hope this is allowed. I did some searching and didn't find a thread on this. I didn't include this in the misogyny thread because I'm not aiming to address how MK treats and represents its women.

I'm noticing more and more how widespread ryona is becoming, especially among MK with the new game. For those who don't know what ryona is, in a nutshell, it's a fetish where a woman is abused, often by a man, but sometimes by a woman. There is a variant where a man is abused, but that's much rarer. To me, whether it's a male or female character, it's still totally twisted and messed up. Obviously if I am a MK fan I have no problem with violence, but those who seriously enjoy and get off on watching people get abused is more than just a tad disturbing. Even though it's fictional characters, the concept is still there of enjoying people get abused in sickening fashions that's totally sadistic.

I know I shouldn't care what other people do, and normally I don't, but I honestly think this is sick and wrong, especially when it's posted all over such public places like youtube. What are your thoughts on it? Should it just be ignored? Is it just a fad? Do you think it will affect how people perceive the game and its characters? I hope it's a very very small part of the population, but as I said in my title, it seems to be growing.
 
You're absolutely right. I've been seeing it more and more as well. I never knew the name for it, but yeah. Either way it's completely disturbing to think that someone truly enjoys watching someone suffer.
 
It doesn't. That's not what my post was about. And what does it matter what my first post is about? I said how it was related to MK.

And who cares what his first post is about, this is actually much, much better than the shit people post now. You know, like the countless "OMG SCRUB SPAM NERF KUNG LAO LOLOLOL" threads, or the countless pony/meme pictures.

Since we're talking about something on the internet here, it is probably just a fad driven by vocal minority, but yeah, to everyone who isn't into it, it is disturbing.
 
I'm not sure if it necessarily increased, rather MK9 became yet another form of media that fetishists can use to satisfy their urges. This is the internet after all, where you can stumble on all kinds of wild shit.
 
Oh hell yeah! It's so creepy! This guy's gallery on DeviantArt is the perfect example! Many of his art was commissioned (asked for then paid for) by this same dude and most of them are one of the MK girls getting killed or brutalized.

I've seen and heard of some creepy likings but someone getting killed/hurt really creeps me out. But everyone has their likings.

I've also seen videos on youtube of like all the mk girls getting killed by fatalities and people comment like "That's sexy" or something like that
 
Yikes. Oddly enough, those who defend ryona get pissy when people call is sadistic and misogynistic. For a lot of us, it's hard to see it not like that.

Maybe they seem it as an extreme form of S&M from a spectator's view. I honestly have no idea. I'd like to think it's not getting more popular, but I guess it seemed that way with the release of MK9.

i am more than willing to contribute to discussions with viable arguements and two sides that can be discussed,
i have been avidly following and contributing to the threads about the theory of evolution and life in space, legalization of marijuana.

i do think, and care about relevent topics, this.. to me is a subject with very little substance, as the only contribution anyone seems to be making is that of just agreement and mutual disgust, no one who is actually one of these people is going to admit it, so we're not gonna get alot of perspective on this subject, which is why i deemed it pointess, which is why i said 'who cares'?? there's nothing to discuss..
its sick, it happens, get over it.

but maybe i should have not been so abrupt, to each they're own i guess.
if its really something you want to dwell on....

(just kinda getting over seeing all these in-your-face disturbing subjects everytime i log onto trmk to check the latest MK news..)


(oh and DCP,if i was to call out every post of your's that (in my opinion) i thought of as being 'stupid' i'd have to give up my day job..)

but I really dont think anything else needs to be said now. The game wasnt purposly made to please people with this fetish, it just happens to be a violent game with some skimpy dressing women in it, but some sick people go and take it too far.
