GameSpot has broken the first details on the Nintendo Wii version of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. In an e-mail interview with series co-creator Ed Boon, GameSpot uncovers that the game controls are customizable and will give the player the option to play with every control option on the Wii, including just the Wii remote, Wii remote and nunchuck attachment, Classic Controller or the GameCube controller. In addition to the interview, here's a video from Midway of Ed Boon explaining how the control scheme works with special moves and Kreate a Fatality.

When you play it, you will notice that every single super move in the game is controlled by a Wii gesture system; also, the fatality systems will use the gesture system. For example, to do a move like throw Scorpion's spear, you will swing the Wii-mote away from your enemy and then bring it back toward your enemy, as if you are throwing the spear yourself toward the enemy, in an "away-toward" motion. It makes all of the moves feel more visceral, and it feels like you are more directly doing the action over just button presses. We want the controls of MK: Armageddon to be the biggest feature of this game on top of all of the content it already has.
In addition to the control scheme, new features for the Wii version will include Unchained's Endurance Mode, which is a battle against 20 opponents in succession with only one health bar. Online functionality will not make it as Nintendo didn't have the development tools available to the MK Team in time.

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon for the Nintendo Wii is scheduled for an April 2007 release.

Well I absolutely LOVE the ease of the special moves it should make things much more immersive. Plus the Kreate-a-Fatality system will be ALOT more fun when you can actually perform the visceral actions. I notice however that he only detailed special moves, not normal combos. And considering the Wii-mote's lack of buttons and the motions being taken up by specials, I wonder how we will be forced to perform the punches and kicks we all know and love.

I want it! Maybe now i'll get a wii

I like how that is the like 5th top viewed video on Youtube atm. :-D!

I'm going to be honest with you.. it sounds good, but I personally wouldn't get it if I already had it. I might rent it to give it a try, but I don't know.

I applaud Midway for not just porting the game. This shows Midway's true dedication to innovation. This reminds me of how immersive the spell casting was in Black and White. I think Armageddon will benefit greatly from a motion sensitive special move and fatality system. Though I will say I am hugely disappointed that it will lack the online play. I hope it will be rectified by release, but sense they already made point of telling us this, it is unlikely it will come to pass. Though disappointed, it is no way Midway's fault. You can't make something work if the tools didn't get to you in time. I also am thankful that, although belatedly, Midway has finished their promise of giving us every Kharacter with the now guaranteed inclusion of Khameleon. I still am looking forward to a couple more things that should be in the Wii version. I hope Midway will make those things come to pass. One is the Kharacter Profiles which are being released online. Those, like Khameleon, should have been in the game in the first place. I also hope Midway doesn't take out Chameleon for Khameleon, like they did in Trilogy. There should be at least one version of Armageddon that can truly be called pure and perfect. In short, let us hope Midway keeps Chameleon and finds some way to get Armageddon online. I thank Midway for, if not before at least now, taking the steps to making Armageddon everything it should be, and should have been.

You....that....I SAID THAT! Also I was wrong. Waggle controls universally fail. MK w/ Natal or PS3's new system though...that's a thought.
